The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the National Security Manager (Canada) for all physical security related issues. The Security Manager for Western Canada will be directly responsible for the Edmonton Research & Development site as their Head of Security. As the Manager for Western Canada, you will be responsible for DOJA (Kelowna, BC), Canada Outdoor (Birch Hills, SK) and KeyLeaf (Saskatoon, SK). The Security Manager for the Western Canada will be responsible for the management of physical security, working in conjunction with Compliance, Quality Assurance and the Global Security Team but not replacing either of those entities.

The Security Manager Western Canada will be primarily concerned with site physical security (i.e. access control, perimeter/interior security, CCTV Camera outages and security guard contracting). In addition, the Security Manager Western Canada will be responsible to conduct investigations and liaise with the law enforcement of jurisdiction as appropriate. This person will also directly assist Human Resources to ensure the security and safety of all our employees in the Western Region.


  • Head of Security responsibilities for the Edmonton site:
    • you will conduct security camera audits and investigate and remedy sensor alarm incidents (including camera outages).
    • Investigate and remedy security infractions and breaches that are not compliance related.
    • Act as primary contact and work closely with the Human Resources Manager Western Region for all security-related HR issues.
    • Act as the primary contact and work closely with the respective local police departments.
    • Develop procedures and implement drills for emergency situations in consultation with the Regional Safety Manager and the local Edmonton police authority.
    • Work closely with the Compliance Manager for establishing and maintaining a facility parking policy.
    • Establish and maintain a visitor badge system.
    • Conduct physical security audits.
    • Responsible for managing the facility visitor log for all contractors and visitors.
    • Directly responsible for the security of visiting VIPs.
  • Security Manager Western Canada Responsibilities:
    • Primary point of contact (POC) for the Regional General Manager (as needed) for all non-compliance security issues.
    • Primary POC for the Director Quality Assurance Western Canada for all non-compliance security issues.
    • Act as primary contact and work closely with all Facility Managers in the Western Region.
    • Conduct or facilitate all criminal or non-compliance investigations for all the sites in the Western Region.
    • Act as a POC regarding all contracted security guards for CGC sites in the Western Canada:
      • Make recommendations to contract adjustments
      • maintaining contracted security guards Post Orders for all applicable sites
      • Track all security incident reports that are initiated by our contracted security guards within Western Canada (as needed)
      • Make informed recommendations to the National Security Manager on how to maximize our contracted security in the Western Region (if needed)
      • Maintain daily manning register and report to National Security Manager
      • Submit a monthly contracted security guard incident report to the National Security Manager
    • Conduct physical security audits (interior/exterior) of all CGC sites within Western Canada (as needed).
    • Act as the primary point of contact and work closely with the Regional Safety Manager.
    • Develop and maintain a close liaison with the Retail Loss Prevention Manager.
    • Act as the primary contact and work closely with the respective local police departments.
    • Responsible for the security of visiting VIPs at all sites within Western Canada.
    • In consultation with Human Resources review and develop procedures (as needed) for suspicious mail handling for our facilities in the Western Region.
    • Work closely with the respective compliance teams to ensure that compliance and security are aligned.
    • Monitor the contracted security for the removal and destruction of classified waste from within all our facilities in the Western Region.
    • And other duties assigned
  • National Responsibilities
    • In the absence of the National Security Manager, be responsive to the Head of Global Security for all non-compliance physical security issues.


  • At least 10 years experience in a senior leadership role for physical and personnel security teams
  • Experience conducting physical site security surveys
  • Managing (including hiring and contracting) security staff (as needed)
  • Establishing bespoke physical and personnel security procedures
  • Managing security for multiple buildings/facilities simultaneously
  • Producing and enforcing security policy
  • Exercising complete discretion
  • Ability to travel nationally
  • Ability to work overtime and flexible hours including weekends as required
  • Conducting investigations and recommending corrective action to management
    • Physical security infractions/breaches as well as internal and/or criminal investigations
  • MS Office/Google suite familiarity
  • Post-secondary certificate in security-related discipline or applicable experience
  • Formal training in investigative techniques
  • Formal training/education in leadership and personnel management
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • National/international security management experience is an asset
  • National Police experience is an asset

The Canopy Growth Corporation is a national and global organization and as such, the Security Manager, Western Region may be involved in national security planning.

This is a full-time position based out of Edmonton, AB.
