The Opportunity:

Reporting directly to the Head of Program Management Research & Development, the Associate Director, Program Management (PM), is responsible for the overall management and oversight of early stage development programs, to include collaboration programs being jointly managed through licensing agreements. The PM ensures projects are designed according to project scope, milestones and key deliverable dates; executed, tracked and prioritized; remain within scope and budget; and delivered on time. The PM will also facilitate teams and sub-teams associated with the project as well as develop/manage the budget. Finally, the PM is a key team member and subject-matter-expert (SME) for program management’s processes, procedures, protocols and general best practices. Finally, the PM will lead, develop and mentor team members to ensure a cohesive, productive group with high influence and impact.

What you will dive into:

  • Applies project management expertise, methodologies and department standards to assist in building a world-class program management function (e.g., PMBOK)
  • Builds and maintains a positive working relationship with key stakeholders, team members, alliance partners and vendors
  • Communicates effectively with team members, senior leaders and key stakeholders on assigned program’s progress, issues, risks, needs and opportunities
  • Communicates regularly with team members, senior leaders and the broader organization on assigned program’s progress and status; Escalates critical issues and delays to leadership with a plan-of-action to address
  • Creates, modifies and actively supports the short- and long-term PM strategies tied to assigned projects
  • Develops and drives continuous improvements; tracks KPI’s and metrics; and implements best practices in support of the advancement of a broad portfolio of drug candidates
  • Develops, maintains, tracks and manages a high quality, integrated project plan, including clearly identified critical paths and key risks as needed
  • Facilitates and coordinates group/team/portfolio meetings, ensuring results-oriented meetings and positive team dynamics
  • Manage collaboration governance and joint project teams for externally partnered programs.  Maintain awareness of contract-specific obligations and milestones.  Work cross-functionally to support onboarding and successful initiation of early stage partnered programs.
  • Leads, manages, develops, mentors, hires and supports team members including indirect reports
  • Key member of the Preclinical Asset Team (PAT) for pre-IND candidate therapeutics
  • With PAT and Functional Leads, define and establish clear governance processes for evaluating and monitoring assets through preclinical stage gate progression to IND.
  • Partners with PLT leadership in developing and operationalizing program strategies
  • Manages content buildout for assigned therapeutic, and frequently updates content to the product team collaboration site
  • Manages team-level and corporate processes effectively, using strong process and project knowledge to drive team deliverables
  • Participates in development and improvement of key business processes, tools and templates related to program management, best practices, and cross-functional pharmaceutical product development
  • Supports Financial Planning & Analysis in developing, maintaining, tracking and managing budget and by identifying budgetary impacts of strategic and critical issues
  • Tracks progress against all targets, and produces timely and accurate status update reports to the leadership/PM teams via a standardized dashboard
  • Other duties as assigned or required

What we expect:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required; Advanced Degree (e.g., MBA, MS, PhD) is preferred
  • PMP or similar certification highly preferred

Experience

  • 8+ years of relevant and progressive drug development/pharma required, especially Ph 2 – Ph 3 clinical development experience
  • 5+ years of program management experience required
  • 3 years of direct/indirect management experience required
  • PMP or similar certification preferred
  • Significant experience in full-cycle drug development/pharma required; Experience participating in early stage discovery and pre-clinical research is highly desirable
  • Significant to advanced experience using Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Power Point and SharePoint required; Experience with Smartsheet and Box is helpful
  • Advanced understanding of program management and associated deliverables, tools and expectations
  • Demonstrated ability to act/think strategically and see the big picture
  • Excellent communication (verbal/written/presentation) skills
  • Sound judgment and leadership skills
  • Strong facilitation and interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented with effective problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Process oriented with the ability to understand complex data, evaluate processes and implement improvements
  • Travel up to 15% (US and International)
